Skateboarding Is Not A Crime

Skateboarding started in California in the late 1940s / early 1950s, when surfers began 'sidewalk surfing' on wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels fixed to the undersides. This meant they could still surf when there were no suitable waves or when they were nowhere near to the sea. However it remained only locally popular until the 1970s when Cadillac Wheels made polyurethane wheels specifically for skateboards, which resulted in better traction and allowed the likes of The Z-Boys to skateboard on the walls of empty swimming pools during the 1976 Californian Drought. This became known as Vert skateboarding, which in turn gave rise to the Freestyle movement with professional skateboarders like Rodney Mullen inventing tricks with funny names like The Flatground Ollie, The Heelflip and The Impossible.

Skateboarding is a lot of things but, as this very cool retro-styled t-shirt says, it is definitely not a crime.
