There are 3 main types of rocks on Earth. Igneous rocks are formed when molten magma or lava cools and solidifies, Sedimentary rocks form when particles created by weathering and erosion are moved by water before solidifying, and Metamorphic rocks are the result of existing rock being transformed by the action of heat and pressure. The oldest rocks on Earth are thought to be around 4,000 million years old and are found on the Nuwuagittu greenstone belt on the coast of the Hudson Bay in Northern Quebec.
