There's normally around 8 wolves in a pack, although there can be as many as 15 animals living together in a family/social unit. Headed by the alpha male and female (who are not leaders as such, but who have more freedom than the other pack members) they use body language and facial gestures (not to mention scent marking) almost as much as they use their famous howl to communicate between themselves. And when they eat, they eat really quickly - possibly because they fear that it will be taken from them by another wolf - hence the term 'to wolf down' your food.
