Legend has it Grimsby was founded by a Danish fisherman called Grim. "By" is the Old Norse word for village. So that kind of makes sense. It would certainly be reasonable to suggest a fisherman founded it – to this day Grimsby is famous for its fishing industry. If you ever go to a Grimsby FC game you’ll more than likely hear the fans chanting "Sing while we’re fishing, We only sing while we’re fishing". Which is clearly a lie, unless they take their rods to the game. Incredibly, it is also said that Grimsby produces more pizza than anywhere in Europe, including Italy. Sounds a bit fishy to me……..i’ll get my coat.
