The belt was the brainchild of an Ironmongers son, Sebastian Belt in 1563 as a remedy to snagging his braces on horse-drawn cart handles. Back then, you couldn't buy cracked white leather ones, you had to wear a plain white leather belt until it cracked naturally, can you imagine?
You needn't suffer such indignities anymore, as you can get them looking knackered straight off the peg. We don't know who invented the checked leather or the seatbelt-esque webbing belt, but we're thankful someone did. Why are you still reading this?
