Back in the early 1960's Jim Marshall was teaching drums and running a shop in Hanwell, West London. Members of local bands used to ask him why he didn't stock or indeed manufacture guitar amplifiers so he decided to have a go. The 100 watt 'Superlead' amplifier coupled with an 8 x 12" speaker cabinet was used by a local band called The Who, although their road crew rebelled at the size of the cabinet so it was cut in half - the resulting two 4 x 12" cabinets created the so-called 'stack' that a cool young American guitarist called Jimi Hendrix used to great effect. Meanwhile a local guitarist asked if they could make him an amplifier that would fit in the boot of his car, and so the JTM45 combo was born - it's also known as the 'Bluesbreaker' combo, named after the band that the local guitarist Eric Clapton was playing for at the time. These days they have an amplifier-shaped factory in Milton Keynes - the city of dreams as celebrated on this hoodie. Turn it up kids...
